“Slow You Down”

In March 2023 Worstead Estate welcomed Kate Smith, founder of “Slow You Down Wellbeing”. Kate will be offering two bespoke massage packages to our holiday guests, to be enjoyed in the comfort of their farmhouse or cottage.

‘Looking after people is part of my DNA. The whole of my working life has centred around Eleanor Roosevelt’s famous quote: “True hospitality consists of giving the best of yourself to your guests”.

I had always found the ancient practice of massage fascinating: this hands-on therapy, passed down from generation to generation, with the sole purpose of ensuring holistic mind and body wellbeing for the individual.

The sense of touch is paramount to us all. It is the first sense to develop in humans and the last to diminish. It is well documented that physical contact has been proven to lower stress and anxiety levels by triggering a release of endorphins. It is seamlessly multifaceted, taking on many different forms - as comfort, as reassurance, as love, and as part of the holistic practice of massage therapy.

This would be the career path I would choose. I invested in training with the best mentors and teachers in the complementary therapy industry, enabling me to this day to pass on invaluable anatomical knowledge and to apply the appropriate technique to help mind and body. Qualifying in Anatomy & Physiology and Massage Therapy from Harley Street and Regent’s University, London in 1999, I have continued this professional development with the added accredited qualification of Thai Massage Practitioner, awarded from the Sussex Thai Massage School. I have honed my varied skillset working in occupational health settings as well as private practice, and am a member of the CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council); the independent UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners. You can be assured you are in the best of hands.

In moving to Norfolk (for a slower pace of life), I found there was a gap in the market for bespoke, luxury R&R visiting experiences specialising in a wide range of massage and bodywork techniques. And so I created Slow You Down Wellbeing.

Every experience is designed for each guest, from a detailed pre-treatment consultation to the incorporation of 8 therapeutic mind and bodywork techniques, all in one luxurious treatment package.

A Slow You Down Wellbeing experience begins from the moment I walk through your door; from the instant calming aromas of essential oils, the comfortable heated futon mattress ensuring a deeper relaxation & freedom of movement throughout your treatment, to the specifically placed candlelight and the music you can choose to accompany your unique relaxation package. This mindful combination makes Slow You Down Wellbeing a truly unique relaxation experience here in Norfolk. For anyone who loves massage but isn’t so keen on oils, there’s also the choice of a 'no oil' treatment.

And why the name Slow You Down Wellbeing? As a well-known and much-loved Norfolk phrase, ‘slow you down’ is etched into the social fabric of our beautiful county’s slower pace of life, so it just had to be!

I look forward to meeting and treating you as part of your relaxing stay at Worstead Estate’s luxury houses and cottages.
