Estate Hacking

Our horse riding permit scheme offers permissive access to a number of rides through a variety of picturesque landscapes including the historic Worstead Park. Our routes are designed to link up with existing public routes to enable a circumnavigation of the estate for local riders.

Annual Membership

Individual membership to our horse riding permit scheme is by annual subscription, from 1st January to 31st December.

Annual Charge Per Rider: £50.00

All riding permit holders are required to confirm their agreement to the terms and conditions detailed below.

  • As a Worstead Estate horse riding permit holder I agree to:

    1. Pay my permit fee within 14 days of receiving an invoice;

    2. Not to ride uninsured and carry a minimum of £5,000,000 public liability insurance (a copy of which is to be provided to the estate with this application and thereafter each time it is renewed);

    3. Carry my permit (or other form of identification as varied by Worstead Estate) at all times when riding on the estate and produce my permit or form of identification to any member of estate staff if requested and follow any instructions from estate staff;

    4. Notify the estate office of any changes to my details (including name, address, telephone number and email address) during a permit period;

    5. ONLY use permitted routes shown on the Horse Riding Permit Plan (available at www.worsteadestate.com/riding-permit);

    6. Use the permitted routes during the specified opening hours and adhere to any variations to the opening hours as may be required from time to time;

    7. Use permitted routes on the estate entirely at my own risk and rely on my own inspection of the terrain at all times;

    8. Enter and exit the permitted routes using the marked access points only;

    9. Close any gates along the permitted routes;

    10. Clear up any horse muck deposited on any concrete estate roads shown shaded brown on the horse riding permit plan;

    11. Where practicable, avoid poaching soft ground during wet conditions and at all times avoid riding in a way which may cause damage to routes or crops, or disturb livestock or wildlife;

    12. Wear a properly fitting BS standard riding hat at all times, ensure that my horse is safely tacked up and ride appropriately at all times;

    13. Not erect any jumps, obstacles or other structures;

    14. Not take any vehicles onto any permitted routes;

    15. Keep dogs on leads at all times, and pick up after any dog(s);

    16. Be aware of any increased fire risk during dry weather and report any fires to the estate office immediately;

    17. Be aware of increased risk of falling tree limbs during windy conditions and report and dangerous trees to the estate office immediately;

    18. Be aware of any forestry, agricultural or other land management operations, maintaining a safe distance at all times and observe any signage or instructions from estate staff or contractors relating to such works;

    19. Report any concerns or suspicious activity to the estate office using the contact details below;

    20. Not conduct any illegal activity, and adhere to all UK legislation and government codes of practice including those pertaining to animal welfare; and

    21. Adhere to the highway code both on adopted highways and estate roads.

    Worstead Estate will charge for time incurred by estate staff clearing horse muck off estate roads at a rate of £25 per hour, to be apportioned between all permit holders.

    Worstead Estate accepts no responsibility or liability for any loss, injury or damage which may be occasioned to the holder of a permit or his/her horse, and the application for a permit shall be an acknowledgement that the permit holder accepts to observe these conditions. Permit holders shall be held responsible for all claims and demands in respect of any injury, loss or damage arising out of or in consequence of the exercise of rights and liberties given by the permit.

Applications for a riding permit can be made using the online form below. If your application is accepted, you will be issued with a permit ID which must be clearly display when riding on the estate.

Please note: we will require a valid email address from all permit holders and will use emails to communicate any amendments to the permit terms and conditions and riding routes.

Payment

Payment is made in one instalment by BACS transfer using the details provided to you following confirmation of your permit. The annual subscription charge is non-refundable.
